The perfect pink Ciao Ciao ushers in a new era at Bottega Veneta
The word ‘ciao’ can mean hello, or goodbye, and its etymological origins are found in the language of Venice, just like Bottega Veneta – which, as a moniker, sounds much chicer than its direct translation, of Venetian workshop. Ciao is also a fitting name for this bag, as it is now a style that waves goodbye to former creative director Matthieu Blazy, now installed at Chanel, and hello to Louise Trotter, his successor. They actually called it Ciao Ciao, so maybe its meaning is hello and goodbye, together, and this season comes in a fetching, fleshy shade of pink, like a slab of prosciutto. The “dangles” – the technical term for the straps lapping the front flap - are in Bottega Veneta’s signature intrecciato, braided from fine strips of leather and finished with a glistening gold ‘knot’. That’s an emblem of the craft at the core of this innately Italian brand.
