Flip-flops are a contentious subject, particularly on the feet of men – see the controversy over their incongruous appearances on red carpets, and the seeming omnipresence of high-fashion versions. Nevermind the fact Rick Owens has set up an OnlyFans to satisfy foot partialists with a penchant for his well-groomed plates of meat. Anyway, the latest iteration comes courtesy of ERL, the cult label of photographer Eli Russell Linnetz where his own image-making expertise is translated to fashion items embedded with narratives. The flip-flop has already flopped about in many ERL lookbook images (the label is based in Venice Beach after all), so it was only a matter of time before they became commercially available. Drily humorous, the style comes in three stated volumes – low, meaning flat, normal, everyday. Big, meaning hoiked five inches off the ground. And huge, which towers at a good eight inches, available by special order only – presumably to ensure no necks will be broken. They’re unisex, FYI.
Flip-flops in low, big or huge in Pirate Black or Sand, available here.
