This mutinous new gourmet fragrance from Miu Miu smells like you’ve always owned it
On rare occasions, exceptional scents break the shackles of subjectivity and appeal to the masses. Miu Miu’s newest scent, Miutine, which is an instantly nostalgic and unserious gourmet, may do just that. Its name is a play on the French word “mutine”, meaning mutiny, and the juice itself doesn’t chase trends. It isn’t a reinvention of the fragrance category but a scent that smells like you’ve always owned it. This in itself is an act of rebellion in today’s digital world, where the pressure to be exciting and new is imperative to beat hungry algorithms. “The composition invites self-affirmation and confidence, creating a perfume for oneself away from any gaze,” confirms Dominique Ropion, Miu Miu’s master perfumer, and creator of archive icons including Givenchy’s Ysatis, Carnal Flower for Frédéric Malle, Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb, Thierry Mugler Alien and Cacharel Amor Amor.
This chypre (a classic structure of bright citrus top notes, a floral heart and a rich, earthy base of oakmoss and patchouli) smells like youth, much like a comforting hug in your mother’s bosom, or a more sophisticated version of your first jammy gourmand – probably spritzed onto your school uniform with gusto after PE. This sentimentality is lifted by an explosive duo of wild strawberry and brown sugar accords, and the resulting fragrance is decadent, feminine and warm but simultaneously lighthearted – the perfect everyday scent.
Miutine is available in 30ml, 50ml and 90ml sizes from August 27.
